Name: Agnes Montague Door: Reapp / Submissive Canon: The Magnus Archives Canon Point: Post-Death (Pre-Series) Age: Appears 26 (Unaging, true age unknown but may be somewhere in her 60s) Appearance: PB: Alina Kovalenko Agnes is described as being quite tall, with long auburn hair and an intense stare that can pull you in like a moth to the flame. History: here Previously in Duplicity, Agnes arrived during the season of Tumenalia. As a bodem, she was immediately forced to sign a permanent contract with the dominant Elias Bouchard, a terrible avatar of The Eye from her own world. He exerted extreme control over her ability to maintain any sort of independence from him up until he left the city. She endured more than one stint in prison due to her inability to conform, as well as a brainwashing in Realignment that ended in her nearly burning down the office of her friend, The Archivist, when he broke her free from it. Ultimately, between a few complicated relationships both positive and negative, she was able to start working toward embracing a lifestyle of something a bit more human. A young warlock conjured an arm band that would allow her to keep from burning others from a touch--though she will find herself now without this item and will have to contend with her physical limitations once more. With the help of later dominants, she was able to spearhead opening a business: a coffee shop that worked as a secretive means to provide shelter and safe transportation for submissives, though she would leave the city shortly after its opening. Personality: (+) Contemplative: Although it's a subtle, easily overlooked aspect of her personality, Agnes is prone to losing herself in deep questions and to flights of fancy. Her introspective tendencies stem not just from her instincts to distance herself from all other connections, but to the questions that burn deeply inside her that no one has ever cared to explain to her before. What is she, exactly, and what is it like to be unlike her? She parades around, when she's able, as if she is just as normal as anyone, finding her own sort of joy in simple acts of daily life that have nothing to do with her. She ponders existence, and life, and hope, and her own doubts. She questions, and she seeks. These days, after her previous run in Duplicity, she's a little bit more at peace with what she is and how she can relate to proper humans--though she still has quite a lot to learn. If nothing else: that she isn't totally incapable of forming meaningful and non-destructive bonds. (-) Destructive: By her nature, Agnes is a raw force of pure destruction. As a child, she was prone to violent, deadly tantrums. Her young, irrational rage would burn houses, fell guardians. No one was safe, and no one tried to discipline her. She reveled in her fire, her decimation. As she grew older, these impulses faded, but the hunger never left her. The delight at seeing the earth scorched, bones blackened...it's not just her nature, it's her instinct. Her destiny. There's a very real part of her that resents this aspect of herself, but it's not one she's ever thought of fighting. It's familiar, and it's always been praised. Now, returning to Duplicity, her destructive tendencies lean even farther away from something she can find any joy in--she is chained to her nature, her destiny. She now wants to do the opposite of destroy, but is unable to escape the destiny she was created for. (-) Antisocial: Raised alone among only the cult followers that had helped bring her into the world, away from other children and all other sources of influence, Agnes lived a life of sheltered and single-minded solitude. She lacks many social cues, and in fact generally avoids instigating conversations or interactions with others unless she deems it necessary for a given reason. Agnes has no distaste for others; she'll usually reciprocate when approached if she finds the person agreeable...but interactions with her are often stilted, strange, and somewhat creepy. What she prefers, and what she knows, is how to seclude herself from afar, and experience the life around her as if it's a novelty that she has no real part of. Her previous time in Duplicity had helped her find individuals who were willing to be patient with her distant and off-putting behavior, and she became encouraged to try (carefully) to reach out further. Returning and discovering that almost everyone she knew before is no longer in the city, she will find herself withdrawing at the feeling of futility this brings her, and struggle to keep herself from re-establishing those distant behaviors. (-) Authoritative: By virtue of her making, Agnes has never been one to submit to others. She is the messiah: the reckoning, the desolation incarnate, the lightless flame, and therefore she has never had to take orders from anyone else. Suggestions, yes. And certainly she'll listen to others when they give her their thoughts and opinions, but ultimately, she's a woman who takes every action with a strength that is not to be denied. Her birth, her upbringing, and her destiny left her without freedom. A life where she would be a slave to the torture she'd feed off of. A creature meant to be remorseless no matter what she may think or feel. In return, Agnes refuses to bend her will to anyone else in any situation that gives her the chance to put her foot down. Agnes was in Duplicity long enough to be somewhat humbled in this tendency--she knows what happens when a submissive rebels against her dominant, and how swiftly the city can punish someone even like her. With those she's unfamiliar, there's still an impulse to act superior and expect to get her way, but overall moves forward much more cautiously in this regard. Powers and Abilities: Agnes, for all intents and purposes, is fire contained in the shell of a human. Not only can she create fire, she burns so intensely hot inside herself as to be a hazard to others (and to her environment). She has enough control over herself to keep her clothes from burning up against her skin, but otherwise, skin-on-skin contact with others provides them with an immediate and intense heat...which only burns ever-hotter on the inside. She can raise not only her own temperature but affect the temperature of the atmosphere around her, as well. Needless to say, she, herself, is completely resistant to the effects of heat, and can never feel cold; liquid would evaporate on her skin, ice would melt. Whether or not she cares for it, Agnes, being an avatar of the Desolation, exists on the suffering of others. Misery, pain, and torment from those who have hopes and potential in their life keeps the fire inside her burning hot and bright. She doesn't need to eat, has never really thought to, and presumably doesn't need much of anything else, either. This, of course, means that ultimately, she needs to experience suffering to keep herself in good health. It doesn't have to be her or anyone else that inflicts the suffering as long as she's able to drink it in. Strangely, Agnes has also demonstrated an ability to mark an individual in a way that can shake them out of hypnotic trances and other influences that have a sway over their free will. It's not infallible, and depends largely on that person's own acknowledgement of their bent will: if they're struggling to break free already, this mark will give them the final push they need. It's likely that this ability stems from the fact that all avatars of a power seem to be able to stake a claim, in some way, to their prey. The person may not even realize that they have a mark at all until it suddenly effects them. In Agnes' case, a quick and minor touch can lay dormant without burning an individual, until suddenly, in the throes of their mental struggle, the searing pain will flare, overpowering the outside influence with physical stimuli and grounding them back in reality. Although it feels like a hot iron branding into their skin, they'll find no literal mar to their body. Inventory: 1. The severed hand of Raymond Fielding. 2.
