[It's tempting to get one straight away, but Agnes has never been particularly impulsive. Responsibility has been engrained in her since childhood, if for all the wrong reasons.]
( the next day she arranges to meet agnes at a coffee shop, wanting to get one to walk over with before going to see the animals there. part of her isn't certain how she so readily agreed to adopting an animal but in truth she's been thinking about this for a very long time )
[It always is, of course, but there's a subtle eagerness to her usually monotonous air. So much, so, she hardly even seems to think about ordering her usual black coffee.]
Thank you for agreeing to do this with me. I know it's a lot to ask.
It might be if it hadn't already been something that I'd considered before. I think maybe I needed a push to do it.
( and whilst a dog could be a lot... she needed something. a companion, a friend. someone aside from the friends that shared her bed. but it was a different kind of companionship, of distractions... of need )
( it's gently put, a small sip of her coffee, and whilst she's been more open lately about her life even with people that know her it's still strange )
And it's always unfortunate. My reason was circumstantial but others shouldn't knoww that.
[Agnes thinks over what she's about to say, really wondering how she feels about the sentiment. It isn't one she's sure she's fully accepted, or expressed herself.]
Perhaps it's limiting of us, to behave under the same laws that governed us, before.

When should we go find a shelter?

[She'd asked a couple of others about their thoughts on pets before. Some were more positive than others. Agnes is curious what Suzy's reasoning is.]

( of not getting too settled )
And I'm still figuring out what having a human life means, what I want.

I feel much the same. How I lived before...there was no room for making connections.
[It was too dangerous. Even for an animal. Perhaps especially for one. An animal wouldn't know any better.]

( even if she doesn't agree with the laws of this place she had made more connections here than she had in previous years )
I've met a lot of wonderful people here.

[So many amazing, wonderful, strange people. Ones who accept her, and don't fear her, and are patient with her peculiarities.]
You among them.
